brunch

macarons and Burns supper

I had a very foodie weekend, starting with a Burns supper on Saturday (I never know if that should have an apostrophe, and if so, where to put it).  It was the first proper dinner party we have hosted so my flat mate and I had lots of fun coming up with a suitably Scottish menu (smoked salmon pate, haggis, neeps and tatties, and a cranachan inspired dessert – of which more later) and setting the table all fancy.  Of course I made some tartan bunting too!  The weekend of indulgence continued with Sunday brunch out after the tennis, a stroll around Stockbridge market resulting in the purchasing of some amazing marshmallows and a pheasant pie, and a few macarons (or should that be macaroons?  I’m having some issues today) to help us pass the time while sheltering from the crazy rain.  The chocolate and passion fruit one at the front there was especially delicious.  I finished the weekend a few pounds heavier but a whole lot happier!

That brunch at the top looks immense. Pretty much my ideal brunch meal there. Or any meal!

Burns’ Supper. In what way is there a question about that?

The macarons/macaroons look delicious – where did you get them from? Moving home to Edinburgh in two weeks and I could be persuaded to make a trip into Stockbridge to pick some up…
