Wild wild west

July 23, 2012

I constantly seem to be apologising for not posting often enough these days.  This time I have a good excuse though: I spent the weekend walking, and setting up a new blog!  Allow me to introduce The Wild Western Way.  If you really want to know more I suggest you pop over there and have a look around, but I’ll tell you a little bit here just to get you interested.

You may know about my friends’ baby boy Oliver who was born in July 2010 with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and passed away on Christmas Day that same year.  We have since set up LoveOliver, a charity in his name, and have raised over £100,000 to help fund research into childhood cancer and provide practical support to families affected by it.  I was hugely honoured to be asked to be a trustee of LoveOliver and have been very involved so far.  But I haven’t actually raised any money myself, and it’s been bothering me.

So.  Deep breath.  I will be walking the West Highland Way in September with my lovely boyfriend.  It’s 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William, running up the side of Loch Lomond and over Rannoch Moor as well as up and down some serious hills!  For a girl who hasn’t climbed a hill since she was a teenager and is very attached to both her snack cupboard and her hair straighteners, this is a massive challenge.  You can read more about LoveOliver and the West Highland Way and follow our training progress at the new blog if you like, but most of all I would really really like you to sponsor us.  Pretty please.  Help us to make a difference to families like Oliver’s.
