Everybody’s starry eyed

May 29, 2012

This Sunday was the dedication service for my friends’ baby boy, and they had a big celebration.  Of course honorary Auntie Kate offered to make a cake!  Multicoloured stars were requested so multicoloured stars were provided, along with three tiers of sponge and my first ever wire cake topper (verdict: could do better, wire is fiddly, must practice).  In spite of the crazy heat (good news for ice cream eaters, bad news for fondant) all was well and the cake got great reviews!  And I must admit to being pretty pleased with it, mainly thanks to my brilliant new mixer and a different madeira cake recipe – check out the recipe and a whole host of helpful tips here.

Kate you are an artist for real. This should probably be your job or something. Amazing.

Oh what a sweet looking cake! Congrats on being able to do that… seriously, mine would have looked like a multi-coloured mess! ha.

It’s so fun and wonderful! Also, new mixer? WOOHOO! New grown-up toys are the best.

I’m so desperate to steal this idea, and make the inside a rainbow cake too, but now pinterest is misbehaving and won’t let me pin with a beautiful picture :-(

Ah ha! Repinned from your pin it worked. Happy now :-)
