Peanuts and sparkles

May 1, 2012

So I had a party.  It was super.  There will be more photos later, but for now, by popular demand, there is a recipe.  These peanut butter squares (like home made peanut butter cups) have been on my to make list for ages and ages, and now that I’ve made them I might never stop.  They were by far the most popular treat at the party!  Just try not to think too much about what’s in them (that would be two sugars, two butters and two chocolates.  Yup).

Peanut butter squares (from Nigella’s How to be a Domestic Goddess)

1.  Put 50g dark muscovado sugar, 200g icing sugar, 50g unsalted butter and 200g smooth peanut butter in a bowl and stir until well combined.  It will look sandy, and it’s ok if there are still some lumps of muscovado.

2.  Line a 23cm square tin with parchment and press the sandy mixture into the tin.  Try to get a smooth surface.

3.  Melt 200g milk chocolate, 100g plain chocolate and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter in the microwave (go cautiously!) or in a bowl over a pan of water.  Stir until smooth then spread over the peanutty mixture in the tin.  Put it in the fridge to set.  Or if you want a sparkly party effect, sprinkle with teeny tiny edible stars before you put in the fridge.

This is so ridiculously, unbelievably good.  Just make sure you have a lot of friends around to share it or you’ll end up eating a whole tin of sugar, butter and chocolate!

So good! I try not to make them too much because you just eat them all

Oh my goodness, they’ve been on my ‘to bake’ list for ages too! Now that you’ve done this post I feel way, way too tempted so I’ve no longer got an excuse and will have to bake them. I mean, seriously too tempted. Damn you! (But thank you!!!)

Not sure how I missed commenting on these! Think I was feeling too jetlagged to try them but they looked amazing… and yay for edible stars :)

Oops, sorry for very late reply, but for those who are interested the edible stars are from Lakeland: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/p14527/Edible-Sprinkles
