High and dry

April 16, 2012

I first heard about the High Line last year when Becky blogged about it (check out her post, her pictures are much better than mine).  Two more recommendations – one from a local and one from a Scottish friend who visited last year - meant it was definitely up there on my list of things to do in NYC.  It used to be an elevated railway line, now it’s a beautiful, quirky and super fun park which runs through part of the city.  We went at the end of  a sunny day, ate our cupcakes, wandered along a few stops, had a nosey into apartments and balconies and hidden gardens, and felt a world apart from the people we could see scurrying along the streets below us.  Here there were people enjoying the late afternoon sunshine,  strolling hand in hand, walking home from work, relaxing with books or friends or picnics, and a lovely peacefulness in spite of the busyness below.  It was lovely.  You must go.
