She came, she saw, she conquered

March 14, 2011

She came with a case full of Girl Scout cookies, peanut butter cups and barbecue sauce and left with Jammie Dodgers, Jaffa Cakes and Tunnock’s teacakes, having tried a macaroni pie, Irn Bru and many a scone along the way, and introduced us to the joy of breakfast tacos.  But it wasn’t all about the food, the crazy weather played a promiment part too!  We had sunshine, snow and an awful lot of rain but still managed to see different parts of the country, the coast, the capital, some castles, a palace and a whole heap of museums.  We saw The Secret Garden at the oldest cinema in Scotland, we dressed up as John Knox, we ate lunch at the (apparent) birthplace of Harry Potter, we saw where (apparently) Kate met Wills for coffee during their student days, we did an open top bus tour, we stumbled across a fabulous exhibition of children’s book illustrations and we learned rather a lot about Mary Queen of Scots.  I’m sure we did much, much more than this but I’m not going to bore you with the details … ok, maybe I will, but not all in one day.  Brace yourselves for a week of touristy tips around here!

It was so much fun to meet Christine in person after over two years of blog comments, emails, tweets and facebooking and I’m happy to announce that (as she put it just before she left) we can now call each other actual friends rather than just internet friends!  Come back soon, Christine!

Ok, FRIEND KATE, I’ll come back tomorrow. :)

TRUE STORY: My mom looked at this photo & the one from the golf course and commented “You look a little cold.” Yes, mother, because it was FREEZING! Silly wind.

Wow, we really did do a lot, didn’t we? Yet on the plane home I kept on thinking about everything I did not get to do/see and I felt like I didn’t do ANYTHING at all. But we did have a grand time and eat so many scones and OH MY GOSH, you have to get the mini Jammie Dodgers! They are tiny little packages with 4 mini Jammie Dodgers inside, perfect for a packed lunch and they are SO STINKIN’ CUTE.

Sounds like lots of fun (and great that you have had some sunshine too…!). Can’t wait to hear all about it. Love the description of the exchange of foods too!
