Cake break: pancakes
I do love a pancake! Whether a big flat crepe or a small sweet dropped scone, a pancake is the perfect breakfasty food, don’t you think? Or any time of day food, really. Yum yum yum.
Here’s the recipe for these little beauties. You don’t really need to use Be-ro flour, but this recipe is from the Be-ro baking book so of course they recommend their own! I love my little Be-ro book, it’s like a basic baking bible. And it’s extra special because recently my lovely Grandma sent me a little baking book of hers, and it turned out to be a much older edition of my Be-ro book!
Apparently Be-ro have been producing this book since the 1920s, originally in a bid to make their self-raising flour more popular, and now because the book itself is so popular it’s on its 40th edition! The one my Grandma sent is the 24th edition, and although it doesn’t have any dates on it the styling (and a brief bit of googling) indicate it’s from the 1950s. Some of the recipes are the same and some have been updated over the years, and many new ones added, but overall it’s still a brilliant little baking manual, and inspirational too:
Sadly this particular page has been dropped at some point between the 24th and 40th editions; isn’t it brilliant?!

I love the Bero home baking books! My mother has the 32nd edition which I’m guessing is early 70′s given the cover.
Looks like yours is from 1957:
